A bright smile is a confident smile.  Luckily, for many people, a brighter smile is just an office visit away!  Advancements in dental care provide an array of options to deliver dazzling results.  Dr. Vanover will be happy to discuss which tooth whitening procedure is best for you.

Top Cosmetic Dental Treatments Include:

.: Whitening – Teeth become discolored over time due to any number of reasons; among them are staining agents such as tea, coffee, red wine, and tobacco.  The teeth whitening procedure is the most commonly prescribed treatment to correct discoloration by removing the staining and improving the brightness of the teeth.  There are many options when choosing to whiten your teeth; Over-the-counter (like Crest White-Strips), Take-Home trays (provided by your dental professionals), and In-Office (1-Hour Zoom).  The whitening process can be performed in our office or by you in the privacy of your own home utilizing materials provided by our staff.

Take-Home Custom-Fitted Trays with NiteWhite ACP

When you choose the home teeth whitening system, the dentist will create  custom mouth trays.  The trays, critical to the effectiveness of the system, ensures the prescribed amount of solution is used and is evenly distributed on the patient's teeth (Keeping the whitening solution off your gums).  Each whitening session will last between about two hours (typically people wear the trays while watching TV in the evening), depending on your needs, and will cover a two to three week period.  Refills of the whitening solution is also only available from dental professionals.

Our Office uses NiteWhite products by Discus Dental
NiteWhite contains ACP (Amorphous Calcium Phosphate), Fluoride, and Potassium Nitrate
 - These add the following benefits to the whitening solution:
1) Rebuilds Enamel through remineralization.
2) Improves Appearance - Restores Enamel Luster by filling in superficial enamel defects improving the overall smoothness of teeth.
3) Dramatically Reduces Sensitivity by occluding dentin tubules.
4) Reduces Fadeback which means your color will remain whiter longer.

Zoom-2 (1-Hour In-Office Whitening)

When you choose In-Office whitening (We use the Zoom-2 system, as seen on the popular Extreme Makeover program), you get the same end results, however, the results are immediate (no waiting 2-3 weeks for your teeth to get to the color you want).  With the In-Office whitening, we also provide the custom-made take-home trays so that additional whitening, and maintenance whitening can be accomplished at home at your convenience.

It is important to remember that teeth whitening is not permanent and you will need to occasional touch-up whitening to maintain your desired degree of brightness.

.: Bonding
– Bonding is a composite resin filling and can be used on the back teeth as well as the front teeth. Bonding is often prescribed for restoring decayed teeth, changing the color of your teeth or the reshaping of teeth. It can be used to close up minor gaps and correct crooked teeth. Teeth that become chipped or cracked are often repaired with bonding.

The doctor will apply a mild conditioning solution to create small crevices in your tooth's enamel.  This provides a slightly rough surface that promotes the resin to bond materials to the teeth.  A high-intensity light will be used to cure the resin onto the tooth's surface; each layer of resin will harden in seconds.  The bonded material will be sculpted to fit your tooth and then finely polished.

.: Veneers – A cure for severely discolored teeth, chipped teeth, teeth with pits, or misshaped teeth.  Veneers are a very popular procedure that requires little or no anesthesia.  Veneers, thin pieces of porcelain or plastic, are glued over the front of your teeth.  Unlike when using crowns, we won't have to remove much of the tooth to apply veneers.

The doctor will take an impression of your teeth, create your custom veneer from the impression, and then glue them directly onto your tooth.  They are very strong and durable, stain resistant, and provide a popular solution for many people dreaming of that perfect smile.
